The Hidden Light at the End of the Tunnel

In life generally, we encounter various situations which makes our experiences of life different from one another. These experiences therefore shape our thoughts, decisions and actions which affects our lives either in a positive or negative way.

Oluchi, a young lady in her late twenties from a family of six just coming out of the lockdown experience could barely pick up the pieces of her life. She had worked with a financial institution for at least 3 years and was able to save some amount of money before her resignation owing to her not perceiving growth in her job role and staying on the same level. After her resignation, she went into her fashion business full time as this was a skill, she had acquired years back. Oluchi had two younger brothers, one who was still an undergraduate and the other was working. Both were staying with her in her one-room apartment prior to the COVID-19 lockdown but now she had to deal with not only fending for herself but for the three of them in a state of lockdown without a paying job and a fashion business that barely provided money to sort her personal bills.

In her quest to not let the present circumstances dictate her fate, she honed her fashion skills by watching some YouTube videos and practised more. Also, she invested some of the money she had saved up during her working years.

A year later after the lockdown, she had done tremendously well in her fashion skills. She grew in her fashion designing expertise as she made more stylish and beautiful clothes, and this attracted more clients to her thereby making her business grow as her clientele base grew as well. She also got a new job in a fintech company. She has been able to increase her streams of income to help her achieve financial independence.

Oluchi stayed on course and did not lose hope irrespective of the adversities but instead, she held unto the beamer of light at the end of the tunnel and did not let go.

I am certain that some of us are familiar with Oluchi’s situation and can resonate with the circumstances as we must have either experienced exact or similar scenarios. We recognize that situation that looks like it has you boxed on all corners and wish to be that light at the end of the tunnel by sharing some offerings and resources that will get you out of that boxed up situation.

Having the right mindset will propel you to keep striving for the best and not remain at your present level until you achieve your set goals and target.

Highlights of Activities So Far...

International Women's Day Activities

In March 2021, celebrating the International Women’s Day the One Woman team in partnership with Bloom Network visited the Lagos State Government Special Correctional Centre for girls, Idi-Araba. During their visit, they shared and encouraged the girls on being responsible for their future and to take a stand for themselves and being an agent of change to reckon with in whatever position they find themselves in the society.

Some gift items were shared at their visit.

This is to support and encourage the Correctional Centre staffs and the inmates.

Some of Our Distinctive Pacesetters

These are some rare gems who have carved a niche for themselves in life and in the banking industry.

From the far left, we have Temitayo Adegoke the Chief Legal Counsel and Company Secretary, next to her is Mojisola Bakare Divisional Head, Corporate Client Coverage and Sales, next to her is Temi Dalley Chief Human Resources Officer and on the extreme right is Adebimpe Olambiwonnu Group Head Financial and Performance Management.

These great women have shown exemplary traits in their respective roles and played their part in being at the top of their affairs. If they can achieve it any woman out there can as well. All you must do is be intentional, diligent, disciplined, consistent and hardworking.

The Electher Event

Sterling Bank One woman sponsored the Women for Women conference, Theme: Partnering for Parity organized by Electher in commemoration of International Women’s Month. The event was aimed at engendering women to choose to challenge and seek to achieve more. An agenda35 campaign was launched to raise funds that will assist to advance women’s political leadership ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The event was impactful as the One woman team discussed on Empowering Women in leadership through financial Inclusion.

The Electher event is just the beginning of the many exploits that the One Woman team is a part of and many other support to women society and association at large.

It’s a great privilege for us at the One Woman team to be part of women success stories and we look forward to doing much more.

Enterprise Development Centre Engagements

The One woman team held a three(3) days training session at the Road to Growth workshop organized by Enterprise Development Centre (EDC). Do you sometimes wonder if you should be more deliberate about your choice of fragrance?

Recently, after having spent the holidays with family, something about being around my mother and mother-in-law (two very elegant ladies to the core), made me start paying even more attention to my choices of fragrance in general. The one thing that struck me about the two ladies, was not only how good they smelled, but more so how it seemed like each fragrance worn at each point in time was just right! Their fragrance always seemed to complement their entire look, from their hairstyle to their choice of clothes, accessories, and shoes. Everything just tied together perfectly. It made me realize that choosing a fragrance is very much like picking out clothes – your style must be put into consideration. How do we go about this? That is where I come in!

Now, I will not take it for granted that we all understand fragrances and everything about them – not like you need to – you only need to understand a few basic things. Thanks to a conversation I had with the nez of Retrocode, Mr. Cohan, I was able to streamline all you need to know, in a beginner-friendly manner. So, I would be providing you with some basic information to guide your choice making.

There are different categories in perfumery for different perfume types. When shopping for perfumes, you have probably come across terms like Parfum, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and Eau de Cologne. These terms are used to distinguish between fragrances, based on the concentration and amount of pure perfume oil within them. Generally, the higher the perfume concentration, the higher the longevity on the skin, and the higher the price.

The highest-ranking type of perfume is called Parfum. It is also more popularly known as Extrait de Parfum or Pure Perfume and has the highest level of fragrance concentration, which is between twenty to forty percent. Parfum (yes, that is the plural form!) are usually the most expensive and have the highest longevity strength due to their high concentration of fragrance oil, meaning they last the longest on the skin whilst giving the wearer a full spectrum of the Top, Heart, and Base Notes that are released over time. They typically last at least eight hours or even more.

Eau de Parfum

Eau de Parfum (EDP) is one of the most common types of fragrance categories and usually has a perfume concentration of around fifteen percent and a lifespan of about six hours. It is therefore generally less expensive compared to Parfum fragrances, as the perfume strength is slightly lower. While Parfum gives you the full blend of the Top, Heart, and Base Notes, Eau de Parfum focuses on the Heart Notes as the Top Notes flash off from the skin quicker.
